Cheapest Cars of 2021
Chevrolet Spark
Price: $10,398 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 7.7L/100km
Highway: 6.2L/100km
Highlights: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Infotainment System
The Chevrolet Spark is the most affordable vehicle of 2021 coming in with an MSRP of $10,398. Don’t be fooled by the price tag in thinking that it’s of poor quality, the interior is made with high-quality material and it has a great infotainment system with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Spark doesn’t have a ton of power and kick, but it provides enough power to get you where you need to go. If you don’t need a ton of space and aren’t bothered by driving a small car without all the fancy bells and whistles, the Chevrolet Spark could be for you!
Mitsubishi Mirage
Price: $13,858 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 6.6L/100km
Highway: 5.6L/100km
Highlights: Comes with a 10-year warranty
The Mitsubishi Mirage is the perfect car for anyone who wants the guarantee that they’re covered for long-term repairs or maintenance. While this car doesn’t have any stand-out features, it could be touted as a reliable vehicle for anyone who isn’t bothered by a simple vehicle. The Mirage has a small 3 cylinder engine to get you around town without breaking the bank on fuel. If cost is an important factor in your decision to buy a car, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a new car more affordable than the Mirage.
Nissan Versa
Price: $16,498 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 7.4L/100km
Highway: 5.9L/100km
Highlights: Spacious interior for a subcompact vehicle
The 2021 Nissan Versa is arguably the most “bang for you buck” car on this list. Not only does it have great fuel economy, but it also has a surprising amount of both passenger and cargo space. It’s certainly a step up from the Mirage and Spark and the price is more than reasonable. The Versa also provides a pretty solid warranty in case you run into any mechanical issues in early ownership. If you’re looking for a small car that can still provide a decent amount of space and be fuel-efficient, the Nissan Versa is definitely worth considering.
The Cheapest Trucks of 2021
Ford F-150
Price: $33,429 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 12.2L/100km
Highway: 9.4L/100km
Highlights: A redesigned model for 2021
The Ford F-150 has dominated the truck market in Canada for decades now and for good reason. In 2021, Ford redesigned the look of the F-150, causing excitement in thousands of truck-loving Canadians. The updates include a new hybrid powertrain, a sturdy onboard generator and a redesigned interior with a new infotainment system. Whether you need a basic work truck, an offroad adventure truck or a luxury truck that will thrive on Canadian winter roads, the F-150 has you covered.
Chevrolet Colorado
Price: $27,948 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 9.5L/100km
Highway: 9.1L/100km
Highlights: Excellent handling for a truck
The Chevrolet Colorado is perfect for anyone that wants the everyday practicality of a mid-size truck with the towing ability of an industrial truck. It should be noted that the Colorado is much easier to handle than its full-size competitors, so if you’re hesitant about the driving performance of a truck, you need not worry. The one area this truck lacks in quality is its interior due to plenty of plastic pieces. While it has comfortable and spacious front seats, the rear seating space is small. The infotainment system is also nothing to brag about, having only the most basic features. If you’re looking for a truck that’s main feature is everyday practicality, the Chevrolet Colorado is for you.
Dodge Ram 1500 Classic
Price: $28,140 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 16.1L/100km
Highway: 11.0L/100km
Highlights: Dodge introduced a ton of new technology for the 2021 Ram
There’s a reason the 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 has the most “best in class” accolades of any other pickup truck. The 2021 Ram raises the bar for all the competing pickup trucks on the market. The Ram offers tremendous towing power with the ability to tow up to 12,750lbs, a smooth ride thanks to its innovative air suspension and a luxury interior featuring a 12-inch infotainment system. The only thing you could complain about regarding the Dodge Ram is the fuel efficiency but let’s be honest, you’re not buying a truck for it’s fuel efficiency.
Cheapest SUV’s of 2021
Chevrolet Trailblazer
Price: $23,998 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 8.4L/100km
Highway: 7.5L/100km
Highlights: Sporty exterior with plenty of interior space
If you’re looking for an SUV with a sleek design and plenty of interior space, the Trailblazer is a great option. While the Trailblazer’s appearance gives off the impression that it’s a sporty and off-roading capable vehicle, it really lacks in performance. With a 137 horsepower 1.2L engine, the Trailblazer doesn’t have much kick in acceleration and the suspension system causes a “harsh” feeling ride. One advantage of the Trailblazer is it has great fuel efficiency for both city and highway driving. While the price for this vehicle is fair, it’s probably not the best choice SUV you can buy if you’re looking for practicality and performance.
Ford EcoSport
Price: $25,299 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 8.6L/100km
Highway: 8.1L/100km
Highlights: Compact and easy to drive SUV
It’s important to remember that this blog isn’t necessarily featuring all cars, trucks, SUV’s and vans that we recommend, because we DO NOT recommend buying the Ford EcoSport. The engine on the EcoSport is weak, the interior is small and mostly made up of cheap plastics, the fuel economy isn’t great and the appearance is as average as it gets. We can’t think of any good reasons why buyers wouldn’t opt to buy the cheaper Hyundai Kona or even Chevrolet Trailblazer over this EcoSport.
Hyundai Kona
Price: $21,299 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 8.6L/100km
Highway: 7.0L/100km
Highlights: Tons of practical features
The Hyundai Kona was introduced three years ago and it still continues to garner excitement and popularity. The Kona has amazing handling, a modern and sporty design, great fuel economy and a great base level engine and an optional turbo engine. While the interior can comfortably fit four adults, it is on the smaller end of most SUVs. The interior is made with high-quality materials, good ergonomics and comfortable seats. The infotainment system is extremely user-friendly and the steering wheel also has plenty of buttons to adjust audio and cruise control settings.
Cheapest Vans of 2021
Kia Sedona
Price: $32,295 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 12.7L/100km
Highway: 10.0L/100km
Highlights: V6 engine with a sleek design
The Kia Sedona is one of the nicest designs we’ve seen in a van ever, having more SUV design characteristics than conventional vans. The one disadvantage to this design is that it lacks some of the flexibility that other vans have. The Sedona boasts a V6 engine, creating a nice and smooth ride. While this engine drives great in the city, it will take some weight on the pedal to get up to speed on the highway. It also has exceptionally good handling for a van, so it could be a great choice for a person buying their first van. For the price, it’s hard to beat the Kia Sedona as it’s the most affordable van on the market today.
Dodge Grand Caravan
Price: $34,522 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 12.4L/100km
Highway: 8.4L/100km
Highlights: 6-Speaker audio system with active noise cancellation
The Dodge Grand Caravan literally does it all. It’s powered by a V6 engine, can comfortably fit 7 across 3 rows of seats and has plenty of room for cargo space. The Grand Caravan has updated safety features including radar and camera sensors that can detect pedestrians and other vehicles to limit the chance of an accident. The interior is made with good quality materials and features a 7-inch infotainment system and a 6-speaker audio system with active noise cancellation. If you’re looking for a van that can do it all without breaking the bank, the Dodge Grand Caravan is for you.
Toyota Sienna
Price: $42,990 CAD
Fuel Efficiency: City: 11.7L/100km
Highway: 6.7L/100km
Highlights: Hybrid powertrain results in an extremely fuel efficient van
The Toyota Sienna has been a staple in the Canadian van market for over two decades. For the 2021 Sienna, Toyota made it their focus to make a van that is amongst the most fuel-efficient vans on the market. The interior of the Sienna saw some major changes as its center console mimics the design of an SUV’s center console. The Sienna is also extremely easy to drive and has amazing viewability thanks to big windows and surround camera viewing of the vehicle. Lastly, the Sienna is extremely spacious and can comfortably seat 7 while also leaving plenty of cargo space. While this may be more expensive than the other vans on this list, there’s a strong argument that the extra costs of this Sienna are far worth it.
